Description
Fused Glass & Steel Side Table ($325)
This class is two 4 hour days, day 3 is project pick up only. Open Studio time is now available if you need additional time to complete your project.
Please note: In order to take this class you must have taken my Beginning Ornamental Welding class or have previous MIG welding experience. I will only briefly review basic welding techniques to refresh your memory.
This class is the best of both worlds – steel and fused glass!
This class will build on your Beginning Ornamental Welding skills. The first hour of class introduces safe use and practice of power tool use (grinders, chop saws, and oxygen acetylene torches. Working with these common metal shop tools will greatly expand your project options.
The first night of class we will discuss some basic table designs and learn basic glass cutting and fusing techniques. You will then design, create a glass table top in preparation for firing in a kiln which fuses all the separate components into one durable table top.
The second night you will create the table base and legs. We then assemble the table (admire our work) and secure the glass into place. Generally I recommend caulking the glass to the steel to make a permanent connection, I will recommend alternate methods also. Caulk takes 24 hours to cure, you take your table home on day 2 and caulk it there or leave it at my studio to cure and pick up on the 3rd night of class. Maximum glass top size 18” x 18”. All necessary materials will be provided for you to choose from several class projects.fused
