Tours at Nucor Steel Plant
Tours are Fridays at 10am & 1pm. Dates to be announced, I am shooting for June and July etc. Let me know if you are interested and I will update soonest. Tours are 5 – 15 people, first come first served and you will need to sign up.
- Everyone must be over 18 years old for insurance reasons. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.
- Please wear long pants (no shorts or skirts) and flat-bottomed, closed-toe, sturdy shoes with socks (no sandals, heels, etc.). We provide hardhats, safety glasses, overcoats, and earplugs.
- The tour takes 1.5 – 2 hours. In order to finish on time, please try to arrive 10 minutes or so early to get signed in.
- There are no bags or purses permitted inside the plant. These items should be left in your car or can be checked in at our security office.
- There are no pictures or video recording permitted on the tour.
- The tour requires over a mile of walking and ascending and descending several sets of stairs. We ask that everyone please consider if they are able to do this comfortably ahead of time.
- Visitors will be asked to present picture ID when signing in. Please make sure to bring this with you.
Apprentice
Apprenticeships are a long held much valued tradition among those who work with their hands. Teaching creativity, work ethics and how to solve the occasional “Oh Shit!, didn’t mean to do that!” moment. Or when to regroup and start over. We also learn to really appreciate the one doing the grunt work and often realize it is not grunt work at all. There are subtleties to be taught during all phases of Fabrication and Welding. Apprentices will be fired for slacking or attitude.
A master passes this type of specialized knowledge to the apprentice by demonstrating techniques, allowing apprentices to watch processes and absorb concepts while assisting in the actual forming and shaping of steel. A master has a deep and abiding love for the material itself…just as a chunk of leftover rebar sitting on the ground. …… Maybe you are a master who has not started yet
Write me up a little something about yourself, your skill level and what tools you have used. What sort of projects you envision making. If you already have a hobby using your hands such as woodworking or pottery, let me know. Send some pictures.Tell me why you are interested in dedicating time to steel. If you have sketches, photos or description of any future steel project ideas please forward to me. I like to get a feel for what you are interested in. If you just want to explore and learn with no agenda you are welcome too!

Hang with the artists and makers for an evening. When possible cocktail parties will be scheduled when the bands are practicing, fire dancers are prancing or when the Burning Man camps are prototyping their pyrotechnics. Ya never know.

Gift Certificate
Gift certificates can be for individuals; think birthdays, super special date night, graduation, holidays retirement and such. Groups events up to I0 welding participants . . . could be the groomsmen thank you gifts, bridal showers. . . . what have you? There have been many great mother and son welding moments and a great many to do”s crossed off a bucket list.
Your gift can be for a specific project or the classic Beginning welding Intensive . . . what ever your giftee would like. Gift certificates are at the individual instruction rate of $125 / hour, groups add $50/person extra. Teaching is fluid and relaxed, giftee will have a great time no matter the experience or skill level. or age….giftee is gonna walk out a welder. Children 9 and older must be accompanied by a parent while signing the liability waiver.
Your gift can be on a specific date and time set by you and listed on the gift certificate or redeemed by the giftee with in 6 months. All refunds must have 48 hour advanced notice of cancellation.
